Kevin stood in line at the liquor store. He had a hankering for a bottle of red to have with his pasta tonight. It was busy as usual, and nowadays he didn't bother to wonder what special event was on to make the store crowded. There was always something on in New Orleans which required people to be drinking!

The couple in front of him were procrastinating over which bottle of pinot gris to take. Their arguing was annoying him. He felt like pointing out they were lucky to have each other to share a bottle of wine over dinner. The guys behind him were holding several cans of beer and large bottle of Jim Beam. Their conversation was random and interrupted by a staccato of 'fuck's which had the lady in front of him turning around and raising her eyebrow in distaste. Just pick your wine Kevin thought wearily. He wanted to get home and eat.

"You reckon Trent'll like his birthday present?" one of the guys asked the other.

"Fuck yeah," his friend enthused. "Better than a fucking tie or a pair of novelty boxers."

Kevin's ears pricked up at the mention of a Trent. He inwardly shook his head. Probably not the same one he reasoned.

"He doesn't wear underwear," the other guy laughed. "Everyone knows that Trent Reznor free balls it."

Kevin's breath hitched. It had been Trent's birthday?

"Did you see him on the big day?" the taller black haired guy asked.

"Nah, he made himself scarce as usual. Probably holing up and getting pissed with his band. Man I'd love to see what those guys get up to! I saw him the next day though and he looked pretty seedy."

"Well this will help to make him even seedier!" his friend laughed.

"Can I help you?" An impatient voice interrupted Kevin's thoughts.
